The 2009-2010 HMS Symphonic Band will appear as a guest performing ensemble at the 2010 Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference in Savannah! We have been selected from a pool of outstanding applicants from around the state for this prestigious honor. This is a rare opportunity for the students, and I am excited about embarking upon this journey! The performance will take place Thursday, January 28th at 7:30pm in the Savannah Civic Center.

Jazz a la Mode will take place at 7pm Thursday, April 2nd at Milton High School.

Jazz Band members are to report to the MHS cafeteria at 5:30pm for dinner. A sound check will follow at 6pm.
The uniform will be black pants/skirt with a white shirt.
Advance tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults. All tickets purchased at the door will be $10.
The Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE) is essentially standardized testing - like the CRCT - for band, chorus, and orchestra. For the band LGPE, each performing ensemble is required to prepare a concert of three pieces, two of which are chosen by the director from a list of selections published by the Georgia Music Educators Association. This concert is presented for three expert adjudicators who evaluate and then rate the performance based on the following scale:
I - Superior
II - Excellent
III - Good
IV - Fair
V - Poor
Following the stage performance, the band is then required to, after a six-minute study period, sightread a piece of music they have never before seen for yet another adjudicator. The sightreading component is considered a performance, and is evaluated as such.
I am very proud to report that both the 7th and 8th Grade Bands received Superior ratings from all adjudicators, continuing a tradition that began back in 2004, the first year of Hopewell Middle School's existence! It has been a very exciting journey, and while this feeling of success has been sweet, it is my hope that the students realize how much hard work and dedication really do pay off. Congratulations!!
The HMS 7th and 8th Grade Bands will be participating in the Pre-LGPE concert on Tuesday, March 3rd.

Students are to wear their formal concert attire and should be ready for warm-up at 6:15pm. The concert will begin at 7pm.
Students who play large instruments will be responsible for getting them to and from MHS.
